Chapter 37: A Vision

Over the next month, the babies started crawling, which added a new level of chaos to everything.  We were getting closer to the bonding ceremony for Billy and Teddy, and anytime they showed up to do anything, at least two little terrors would be scrambling around trying to destroy everything.  Yet, despite things taking twice as long because we had to continually move things out of the reach of tiny hands, it was joyful.  Zak, Piper, and Flynn were delighted that their younger aunt and uncle were now properly on the move, and they led them around everywhere, raced them, or got on their hands and knees and crawled around with them giggling like mad.  When Ziggy and Anna were around they were little mama hens, clucking around the babies, teaching them to finger paint, use puzzles, and make things out of clay.

Chapter 36: Childhood Dreams

A few days after the orgy we were taking a day to all be together.  Not sexual and it wasn’t something we all officially agreed to do, it was almost as if the fact that half of us had sexually strayed we now wanted to emotionally bond.

Everything felt like such a buzz after the announcement that Lyra was pregnant.  It was like everything was sparkling and shiny and nothing bad could hurt us.  Of course, that meant quite a few of us were expecting the other shoe to drop.  Bruce was nervous by nature, and Natasha would always expect the worst.  The weird feeling of dread that had fallen over the western farmland was shrinking, but those of us that did keep thinking about trouble interrupting our bubble of excitement and love expected it from there.

On the day of Edwin’s arrival with Rory and Lyra, we wanted to have a meal to welcome them without the associated feast in case it proved to be too big of an event.  Besides, we’d had so many in the five months we’d been there, we all wanted a break from them.

Chapter 30: Getting Out of his Head

The trip Thor, Steve, and Wanda had taken to find out what was causing the strong sense of dread in the farmers who lived by the western wall of the city had been fruitless.  They had found the same things that Rebecca, Riley, and Billy had found – a feeling of oppressive fear that got stronger in a certain spot and then ended – but they couldn’t find the source.  In the end, Thor had ordered livestock to be moved to the farms on the eastern wall, and that the families living there would be housed at the palace until he could get to the bottom of the problem.  In the meantime, guards were set out around the perimeter of where that feeling occurred in the hopes it would if not find the thing causing the problem, it would at least stop it from spreading.

Each day Loki and Thor would go out to see what they could find, sometimes taking Heimdall with them, and other times Wanda, Sarah, or Billy.  Yet each day nothing had been found.

I was getting restless.

I had sat through my fair share of council meetings before being asked to join Thor for one of the weekly sessions where the public petitioned him for things.  That could be anything from asking for a road to be fixed or an extension on a home to mediation regarding property ownership disputes or sending out guards to investigate people’s concerns.

I still felt woefully underqualified for even offering my opinions on the running of the country, but where the council meetings when I said something I felt confident that the council would take into account I was still learning when I sat in front of people who saw me as some divine wisdom, I worried about fucking it up.
